SEG is proud to have completed the building services engineering for the new Rerewhakaaitu Nursery, a significant development supporting ongoing forestry operations in the Rotorua region. This purpose-built facility plays a key role in the propagation and processing of seedlings that underpin long-term forestry activity, making reliability and resilience essential from the outset.

Although the nursery is primarily an outdoor operation, it still depends on robust and well-considered infrastructure to ensure day-to-day activities run efficiently and safely. SEG was engaged to design the HVAC, Electrical, and Hydraulic services required to support the nursery’s processing areas, staff amenities, and associated operational buildings. Each system was carefully coordinated to suit the unique demands of a rural, operationally critical site.

A strong focus of the design was resilience and self-sufficiency. The electrical infrastructure was designed to accommodate solar panel integration, reducing reliance on the grid and supporting sustainable operation. In addition, a standby generator was incorporated to ensure continuity of operations during power outages, safeguarding critical processes. The hydraulic design includes a self-supplied water system, providing reliable water availability tailored to the nursery’s operational needs and location.
Our role was to ensure the nursery has dependable, efficient services from day one, while also allowing flexibility for future expansion and operational growth. All systems were designed with longevity, maintainability, and practicality in mind, reflecting SEG’s commitment to delivering solutions that work in real-world conditions.
This project marks another successful contribution by the SEG team to a key regional industry. We are proud to have played our part in bringing the Rerewhakaaitu Nursery to life and supporting the continued growth of forestry in the Rotorua region.
