Waihī Beach Library Nears Completion

The Waihī Beach Library and Community Hub is entering its final phase, with finishing touches now underway and an official opening expected in July 2025. This $5.5 million development represents a bold investment in the future of the Waihī Beach community—providing a modern, accessible space where locals can connect, learn, and thrive.

Strategically built in front of the existing community centre, the new facility supports a shared services model that brings together essential council services, library resources, and flexible community spaces under one roof. The goal: to better serve the evolving needs of the community while making services more accessible to those who previously had to travel further afield.

The design incorporates multiple functional areas including:

• Multi-purpose spaces adaptable for workshops, events, and community programs

• Additional meeting rooms to support local groups and organisations

A key strength of the project has been its collaborative approach. Western Bay of Plenty District Council has worked closely with the Waihī Beach Community Centre Committee from the outset, ensuring that the hub complements and upgrades existing facilities rather than replacing them. This partnership has resulted in a cohesive design that feels both modern and rooted in local identity.
